Performing crane activities at sea is not always easy. Installing wind turbine blades at sea, for instance, can be done only at low winds. Searching for ways to improve the existing installation technology, the company partnership High Wind developed an entirely new innovative system: the 'Boom Lock'.
Offshore cranes equipped with the Boom Lock system can carry out installation works precisely and safely, even at high winds. The system thus provides valuable time savings for large offshore infrastructure works.
This technological feat was built at the workshop of De Meyer in Temse. The De Meyer team also carried out the engineering details and the installation on site. The first Boom Lock system was delivered in January 2015 and after extensive testing it was taken into operation on the self-propelled jack-up platform Neptune (GeoSea).
