The Salagaan bridge in Vilvoorde is ready for use!

The Salangaan Bridge over the canal connects the district 3 Fountains with the new urban district 4 Fountains.

De Meyer took on the task of designing, building and installing the hydraulic controls for this “bascule bridge.

"I think that the Salangaan bridge may become the best connection to the center of Vilvoorde for all those who want to commute, by bicycle or on foot.” says mayor Hans Bonte.

Fancy a know-it-all? The inhabitants of Vilvoorde chose the name of this bridge. The salangan is a type of swift. Every year you can see the bird flying over Vilvoorde starting in April, when it returns from its wintering. The name is a reference to the late Frederik Vanclooster (1998-2020), Vilvoorde resident who tragically lost his life after an unfortunate fall into the canal. His totem name at Scouts and Guides Vilvoorde was “entertaining salangaan. A nice tribute, then.

Great teamwork with our partners Artes and Ney & Partners!
